NAWILIWILI — OZone, with Alison Fornari at the stick, made its move just a little too late as Papa‘au, with Marcie Millett at the wheel, topped the second race of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Wahine Series on Thursday.
Papa‘au jumped off the clean start and held the lead until the turn at the No. 2 can fronting the Pali Kai cottages at the cliffs on the final leg of the 5.12-mile course.
Fonari whipped the horses into action, coming from behind Fast Company, holding the No. 2 position, and overtook Millett and crew at the No. 2 can, holding on to cross first overall on a 59:45 elapsed sail.
But correcting to 59:51 PHRF put OZone behind Papa‘au, crossing at 1:00:08 elapsed and correcting to 57:34 PHRF for the top berth.
Fast Company, with Jakki Nelson at the stick, crossed at 1:00:21, just 13 ticks behind Papa‘au, and corrected to 1:00:27 PHRF for third place.
Bonjolea, with Bonnie Tiffany at the wheel, finished solid on a 1:03:04 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:00:38, nine seconds behind Fast Company.
Bonjolea also corrected to 52:41 Club for top honors in that class for the second straight week.
