KILAUEA — “A Midsummer Night Dreamscape” is on for one night only tonight at Na ‘Aina Kai Botanical Gardens in Kilauea on the North Shore.
Some believe Na‘Aina Kai Botanical Gardens is the ideal piece of tropical paradise to host an over-the-top Fairyland-like reception amid and around an ambrosial maze under the moonlight. All guests are encouraged to wear costumes.
The elegant event offers a four-course dinner catered by Sushi Bushidos, specialty drinks designed by Nani Moon Meadery, dance by Elements Fire and Sudeeka Bellydance with silk fairies, along with an after-party dance reception. The event will feature a varied ensemble of talented professionals.
“We wanted to mix up as many different talents as possible for the occasion. It’s like nothing Kaua‘i has ever seen before,” said Roxanne Ruby, who will participate in the fire dancing that night.
Most of the show is unspoken, leaving imagination to take full flight through many magical moments.
The party will be emceed by Thalyn the Bard, a self-proclaimed University of Life ambassador who graduated from the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts. He will play Oberon, weaving in and out of the action.
The all-out occasion was put together by Elements Production, an umbrella organization run by Ruby and Adrian Nicholas whose connection with the sacred runs deep.
Both seek to promote all sorts of talented individuals on Kaua‘i.
“Kaua‘i has been so good to me, I wanted to give something back to the island and the people,” said Ruby, whose involvement in the community is also reflected in her interest in working with children.
“I believe in youth empowerment for the good of all,” she said.
Similarly to the original play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” wherein confusion and manipulation give an unusual meaning to romantic comedy, “A Midsummer Night Dreamscape” will deliver a series of surreal shows.
Yet unlike the Shakespearean show-within-a-show plot, Ruby and Nicholas’ offbeat surprises will supplant each other until the myriad moments titillate the senses intensely.
The event runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m. with an after-party at the Kilauea Bistro until 12:30 a.m.
Advance tickets are $100 for a single person or $185 for a couple.
Tickets are available at Sushi Bushidos in Kapa‘a, The Root in Kapa‘a and Hanalei, Kilauea Lighthouse bistro and Kaua‘i Fine Arts in Hanapepe.
