KILAUEA — What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than having a free round of mini golf and bicycle rentals?
Kaua‘i Mini Golf wants to say mahalo to island locals for year-round support by welcoming kama‘aina to play a free round of golf. All you need is a Kaua‘i ID to play from 4 to 8 p.m. on the last Sunday of every month.
The challenging 18-hole course and the bicycle path winds its way through a botanical garden, a working plantation and a stone dam overlook. The newly completed 5-mile Wai Koa Loop Trail is free any day of the week for cyclists and hikers.
The use of the trail and the Kaua‘i kama‘aina Sundays are a pair of free events that Wai Koa Plantation, Kaua‘i Fresh Farms, Kaua‘i Mini Golf and Anaina Hou owners Bill and Joan Porter have created and implemented as gifts to the community.
Even if Kaua‘i residents can’t make it on the last Sunday of the month, residents are extended a 40 percent discount off the full price any other day of the month.
Cherie Grousset, president and CEO of Anaina Hou Community Park, said this educational experience with outdoor fun is great for the entire family.
“The plants in the mini golf gardens tell the cultural history of Hawai‘i, and the Wai Koa Loop Trail offers a glimpse into Kilauea’s historic sugar plantation era,” Grousset said. “Providing free trail use and free monthly golf to Kaua‘i residents fulfills the park’s mission of providing safe, healthy activities for the community. We look forward to seeing you and your family.”
