HONOLULU — Gov. Neil Abercrombie recently announced the release of more than $16.9 million for Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) selected for their potential to immediately stimulate the economy and generate jobs for local residents.
“Each of these projects is part of a larger economic strategy that has already put our state back on track toward economic recovery,” Abercrombie said last week in a news release. “These newly released CIP funds bring the total amount released this year to more than $440.7 million.”
In addition, the governor has released an additional $3 million for grants-in-aid to the Public Broadcasting System Hawai‘i, Hana Health Medical Center and the USS Missouri Memorial Association Inc.
Funds for the following Kaua‘i projects and grants, identified as priorities by the state Legislature, were approved and released by the governor:
• Kaua‘i High School: $1,041,000 for the design of a new gymnasium/auditorium building, which will include a wrestling room, boys and girls locker rooms, an athletic director’s office and other support spaces.
• Koke‘e Road, Waimea: $500,000 for additional construction to upgrade and resurface from mile marker 15 to the Kalalau Lookout, including drainage improvements on the roadway.
