POI‘PU — Kukui’ula, a private luxury community located on the South Shore of Kaua‘i, won the Gold Nugget Grand Award from the Pacific Coast Builders Conference for best public/private recreational use project, resort.
Kukui’ula was honored for the clubhouse and spa, and recognized for its commitment to the “Hawaiian plantation” architectural style.
The Kukui’ula judges statement said, “The centerpiece of a large master planned private golf community; this facility represents the next evolution of the private ‘lifestyle club.’ Designed within a traditional ‘Hawaiian plantation’ architectural style, the project was conceived to preserve and reflect its local heritage while creating the next level of a luxurious yet comfortable Hawaiian environment.”
The oldest and largest program of its kind, PCBC Gold Nuggets honor creative achievements in architectural design and land use planning for residential, commercial and industrial project throughout 14 Western states and international countries. A panel of six industry professionals from across the country reviewed 440 entries in 47 categories.
Winners were from the Western United States and from Australia, Canada, China, Dubai, France, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates.
The Plantation House is the heart of the club facility with views of the Pacific, Sprouting Horn and sunsets. This 20,000-square-foot facility has coffered ceilings and wood beams, and includes a collaboration of furnishings from around the world. It offers family entertainment, restaurants and pools.
Adjacent to the Plantation House is The Spa at Kukui‘ula, a 20,000-square-foot sanctuary, offering private indoor/outdoor treatment rooms, fitness facilities, a movement studio for yoga and Pilates as well as a lap pool for exercise and water therapies.
