Felicidad Quel
Felicidad Bueno Quel of Hanama‘ulu died at home on July 28, 2012, at the age of 92. She was born in San Juan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on May 9, 1920, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her son, Henry Quel, and great-granddaughter, Anjannette Duyanen, parents, Crispolo and Geromine Bueno.
She is survived by her husband, Luis Quel of Hanama’ulu; one son, Pacifico “Pat” (Clementine) Quel of Hanama‘ulu; two daughters, Elsie Ollado of California and Norma Vida of California; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Quel family with arrangements.
Bryant Hironaka
Bryant Makoto Hironaka of Kalaheo passed away on July 23, 2012, at Queens Medical Center in O‘ahu at the age of 59. Born in Waimea, Kaua‘i on June 27, 1953, he was an avid fisherman with the Port Allen Fishing Club at Port Allen Small Boat Harbor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Masayuki Hironaka.
He is survived by his mother, Satoko Hironaka, Kalaheo; sister, Dawn Nakata (Keith Olson) of Kalaheo and Cook, Minn; nephew, Ryan Nakata (Lamarrie Nerpio), Hanapepe; numerous cousins and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Waimea Higashi Hongwanji. Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m.
Service to follow at 4 p.m. A celebration dinner reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Port Allen Fishing Club House located at the Port Allen Small Boat Harbor.
The family suggests casual attire and flowers be omitted.
Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary, Koloa assisted the family with arrangements.
Kameaokalani Patch-Tavares
Kameaokalani Ku‘uipo Patch-Tavares of Kilauea died at Kapiolani Hospital for Women and Children on July 11, 2012.
She is survived by her parents, Angela Patch and Joey Tavares; sister, Mahealani Patch-Tavares; brother, Konanui Patch-Tavares; maternal grandmother, Loraine Patch; maternal grandfather, Leo Patch; paternal grandparents, Junedale and Michael Tavares; uncles, John Patch, Thomas Patch, Michael Tavares, Jr. and Jardin Tavares; aunty, Michelle Tavares; and numerous cousins.
Services for our baby girl will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Hanalei Bay Pier beginning at noon.
Doris Watanabe
Doris Toshie Watanabe of Lihu‘e died at home on August 2, 2012, at the age of 87. She was born on the Big Island of Hawai‘i on Sept. 1, 1924, and retired from Kuhio Grill in Moiliili as a waitress.
She was preceded in death by her son Arthur Lee Muffly, Jr.
She is survived by her husband Akinori Watanabe; son, Dennis (Carlina) Muffly of Hanama‘ulu; brother, Tom (Evelyn) Nagano of O‘ahu; sister, Hisae Masuda of O‘ahu and three grandchildren.
Private inurnment services will be held on Maui.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Watanabe family with arrangements.
Shannon Doak
Shannon David Doak of Cleveland, Ohio died on July 25, 2012, at Shipwreck’s Beach, Po‘ipu, Kaua‘i, at the age of 35. He was born on March 22, 1977 in Cleveland, Ohio.
He is survived by his parents, David C. Doak of Westlake, Ohio and Kathie Mc Murrian of Englewood, Fla.; three brothers, Adam T. Doak of Columbus, Ohio, Joshua Graham of Garfield Heights, Ohio; Casey Mc Murrian of Englewood, Fla.; and three sisters, Brynn Alexader, Tennile Mc Murrian and Kelsey Mc Murrian, all of Englewood, Fla.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Sueo Hashimoto
Sueo Hashimoto of Lihu‘e died on Aug. 1, 2012, at home at the age of 95. He was born on March 9, 1917, in Halehaka, Kaua‘i.
Preceded in death by his wife, Janet Yasuko Tomota.
He is survived by his two sons, Wayne Hashimoto of Kaumakani, and Blaine Hashimoto of Ohio; two daughters, Joyce Hashimoto of Lihu‘e and Jo-Ann (Paul) Nakabayashi of Honolulu; and sister, Asayo Sakahara of Va.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Lihu‘e Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and service will begin at 11 a.m. Inurnment to follow.
The family suggests aloha attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
