Since 1965, Kaua‘i Kookie has been one of Kaua’i’s favorite cookie companies. The quality and taste of its products are a staple and a part of our daily lives.
When Assistant Vice President Lyle Kobashigawa decided to open a kitchen bearing the Kaua‘i Kookie brand in Kalaheo, the community knew it was in for a treat.
Kaua‘i Kookie restaurant in Kalaheo serves local-style breakfast and lunch, a variety of musubis and sushi and also has an assortment of baked goods.
Featured in today’s Kaua‘i Times are two of Kaua‘i Kookie’s most popular breakfast items: the Loco Moco Bowl and the Corned Beef Hash Breakfast.
The Loco Moco Bowl, priced at $4.95, consists of one hamburger patty, a fried egg, rice and gravy. This is one of the tastiest loco mocos I’ve had. The hamburger patty and fried egg are cooked to perfection, well done, tasty and everything you would expect from a local-style dish.
KK’s other popular breakfast dish, the Corned Beef Hash Breakfast priced at $7.99, consists of two eggs (cooked to your preference), corned beef hash patties and your choice of white rice, brown rice or hash browns. This one is also a winna.
The corned beef hash patties aren’t your typical out-of-the-can, fry-and- serve dish. No. This buggah is made from scratch and melts in your mouth. This Corned Beef Hash Breakfast is among one of the best breakfast dishes on the island.
There are 10 breakfast items; prices range from $4.95 to $12.95. Breakfast is served from 5:30 to 11 a.m. daily.
Kaua‘i Kookie also serves lunch.
Sandwiches and burgers range from $3.45 to $6.50 (add fries or side salads for $2). Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Musubis are also a favorite among regulars at Kaua‘i Kookie.
There are six different types of musubis: hot dog, salmon, shrimp, SPAM, teriyaki beef and teriyaki chicken. Prices of musubis range from $1.85 to $2.50.
Don’t forget to be on the lookout for daily specials on the board and for fresh sushi made daily.
When Kaua’i Times visited Kaua‘i Kookie, they ran a special of fried ono for lunch plus had maki sushi and California rolls.
Last but not least are the assortment of treats and assorted baked goods that Kaua’i Kookie is known for: pies, cookies, bread — the list goes on and on.
