Little Fish Coffee in Hanapepe packs a punch when it comes to beverages. With more than 25 different drinks — including coffees, lattes, juices, teas and smoothies — it is no surprise that the coffee shop is a popular destination to quench one’s thirst.
Two drinks are featured this week: the pour-over coffee and the Mama’s Helper smoothie. Both of these delightful concoctions are made from fresh ingredients and are prepared quickly.
Owner of Little Fish Coffee, Camille Page, who opened the business back in June 2011, explained the ingredients and the process of creating coffee using the pour-over technique: “Our coffee is fresh roasted every week. It’s fresh roasted in Waimea at Kaua‘i Roastery. It’s fair trade and 100 percent organic. We add a couple scoops of ground coffee over a funnel on a filter, then pour a little bit of hot water to wet the ground, fill it up and you’re good to go.”
The pour-over coffee comes in two sizes: 12 ounces for $2.50 and 16 ounces for $3. You have a choice of the house roast, Ka‘u farms roast or Moloa‘a roast. Coffee this fresh is worth every penny.
Next, Page blended her own little creation: the Mama’s Helper smoothie. This smoothie goes for $5.75. It consists of two shots of espresso, chocolate, peanut butter, banana and protein powder. This wonderful-tasting smoothie is great for any occasion, but it is a blessing for people who are on the go and don’t have enough time to grab a bite to eat. It has everything you need in the morning: fruit, protein, great taste and a pick-you-up to get you started on your day.
Little Fish Coffee, located at 3900 Hanapepe Road in Hanapepe, is a great place to hang out, talk story and have a drink.
The inside of the store is filled with images of popular culture, nostalgic trinkets and a bathroom decorated from top to bottom with writing. It is a wonderful and friendly atmosphere. Free wireless Internet is also available.
If the inside of the store doesn’t suit you, outside accommodations will definitely win your heart. Outside, at the back of the store, a peaceful garden filled with seating and lots of shade is the perfect place to chill and relax.
