HONOLULU — Alex Dunnachie, punter for the University of Hawai‘i football squad, was suspended for an indefinite amount of games Friday. The suspension announcement came hours after Dunnachie pleaded no contest to a drunk driving arrest last month, the Associated Press reported Friday.
He was arrested in Honolulu and was released on a $500 bail. The 21-year-old punter’s arrest came after quarterback Cayman Shutter and linebacker Alema Tachibana were arrested earlier this year.
“Alex made a very poor choice several weeks ago and he’s expressed to me his remorse for his actions.” says UH football Head Coach Norm Chow in a press release. “Alex will rejoin the team to participate in fall camp on Monday, however, he is suspended indefinitely from game participation. He will need to prove to the coaches, and more importantly his teammates, that he’s worthy to suit up this year.”
Dunnachie is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 24.
