Mary T. Taira
Mary Teruyo Numazawa Yamamoto Taira of Honolulu died on June 29, 2012 at Kuakini Medical Center on Oahu at the age of 84. She was a saleswoman at Manchester Sterling Company and a retired realtor.
She was preceded in death by her father, Yutaro Yamamoto; mother, Yoshino Doney; step-father, Harold J. Doney; brother, Robert (Joan) Yamamoto; sister-in-law, Helena Yamamoto.
She is survived by her three sons, Myles, David, and Calvin Taira; daughter, Karen Murray; five grandchildren, Duane (Mary Lee), Diane, Denise, and Dennis Taira, and Graham Murray; four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Maureen, and Melissa Taira, and Nathaniel Dixon; brothers, David Yamamoto and Frank (Susanna) Doney; sister, Chloe Yamamoto; cousins, Heloise (Earl) Demas of Kalaheo, Janet Paulos, Cheryle Aloha (James) Eguchi-Dixon, Ellsworth (Nani) Numazawa of Omao, and Dellick (Lorelei) Numazawa of Waimea.
A memorial service will be held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary in Honolulu on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 3 p.m., visitation at 2 p.m. Before sunset, the family will hold a private scattering of ashes at the upper trailhead of the ‘Aiea Loop Trail.
Diana DeSilva
Diana Flores DeSilva of ‘Omao died at Queen’s Hospital on July 28, 2012 at the age of 78. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 22, 1933, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph DeSilva of Omao; sons, Richard Sanchez Troche of Oahu, David DeSilva of Oklahoma, Jerry (Rhoda) DeSilva of San Jose; daughter, Sandra Perez of California; brothers, Edward (Sylvia) Troche Jr. of Puhi, Joseph (Priscilla) Flores of Omao; sister, Lucille (Eddie) Lopez of California, Edmond (Faith) Sales of Oahu; 4 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012 at Kauai Memorial Gardens at 3 p.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the DeSilva family with arrangements.
Felicidad Quel
Felicidad Bueno Quel of Hanamaulu died at home on July 28, 2012, at the age of 92. She was born in San Juan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on May 9, 1920, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her son, Henry Quel and great-granddaughter, Anjannette Duyanen, parents, Crispolo and Geromine Bueno.
She is survived by her husband, Luis Quel of Hanamaulu; one son, Pacifco “Pat” (Clementine) Quel of Hanamaulu; two daughters, Elsie Ollado of California, Norma Vida of California; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Quel family with arrangements.
Alby G. Balinong Jr.
Alby “Sarge” Balinong, 80, of Wailua passed away on July 9, 2012. Born in Kapaia on August 4, 1931 he was retired from the State of Hawaii highways division.
Preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; and daughter Patrice.
He is survived by his brother, James Anakalea; daughters, Angela Balinong, Donna Kovarik and Alexis Carvalho; son Graham Kovarik; two granddaughters Leslie Kuhaulua and Autumn Ozimec; and five great-granddaughters.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 4, 2012 at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery with visitation at 10 a.m., services and military honors to follow.
The family asks that you join them after the service for fellowship and celebration of a life lived to the fullest.
