LIHU‘E — The YWCA Kaua‘i announced recently that Bethany Hamilton and Alana Blanchard will be the honorary co-chairs for their “Empowering Our Future” Capital Campaign.
The $1 million campaign is being undertaken to assist in the purchase and renovations of the new 3,400-square-foot Womens Center facility in Lihu‘e, according to a news release.
“Being the honorary co-chairs of the YWCA Kaua‘i’s ‘Empowering Our Future’ Capital Campaign is very special to us,” said Hamilton.
“We aspire to be strong role models for young girls everywhere, encouraging them to follow their dreams,” added Blanchard.
Both young women agree that the YWCA Kaua‘i supports the community, women, teens and children in a wide variety of ways, and they both would like to encourage everyone in the community to make a donation to the “Empowering Our Future” Capital Campaign today.
“This campaign will empower the future of women and children for many generations to come,” Blanchard said.
Hamilton agreed.
“We believe that it’s important for young girls to see women in leadership roles,” she said. “Women offer a different perspective and these young girls, especially the ones at risk, need strong role models in their lives.”
Blanchard added, “Help us make a huge difference in our community. We humbly ask you to support this important undertaking.”
The YWCA of Kaua‘i has crafted a local vision specific to the needs of Kaua‘i that involves: a strong commitment to eliminating violence in all of its forms, especially in the areas of domestic and sexual violence; providing treatment to those who have been traumatized by violence; and providing the skills training and opportunities for change necessary so that individuals who have been violent can live productive and caring lives.
In all of the YWCA’s services to victims and perpetrators of violence, the primary emphasis is to be victim-centered and to foster empowerment, the release states.
