HANAMA‘ULU — A three-car collision with an injury closed a portion of Kapule Highway on Monday evening.
According to a Kaua‘i County spokesperson, police responded to a 9:20 p.m. call of a three-car traffic collision on Kapule Highway, just north of the Ahukini Road junction.
According to police, a black sedan traveling north rear-ended a silver sedan that had stopped in the northbound lane. This caused the silver sedan to rear-end a white SUV, according to the press release.
The 61-year-old driver of the silver sedan was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for back injuries sustained during the collision. No other injuries were reported.
Police closed Kapule Highway for roughly 45 minutes while crews worked to clear the roadway. During that time, southbound traffic was diverted to Kuhio Highway through Hanama‘ulu, while northbound travelers were diverted to Ahukini Road.
