Richard Rabago
Richard L. Rabago died on May 18, 2012 at the age of 68. He was born on August 14, 1943 and was a 1961 graduate of Waimea High School. He was a retired aerospace designer and taught martial arts for more than 40 years in Torrance, Calif.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Rabago and brother, Glenn Rabago.
He is survived by his mother, Rose Rabago; wife, Sharon Rabago; daughters, Donna (Dennis) Pleta; Dayle (Tsuyoshi) Takakusagi; son, Rick Rabago; grandchildren, Dustin, Danielle, Melia, Jarett, Kylan, Jaden and Jerrick; brothers Robert (Pat) Rabago and Marvin (Patty) Rabago; and sister, Jocelyn (Dean) Uyehara and numerous family members and close friends.
A celebration of life will be held on August 4, 2012, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Westside Christian Center Assembly of God in Kekaha.
Summer Woolsey
Summer Kamaolipua Woolsey of Anahola, Kauai and Waimanalo, Oahu passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on July, 11, 2012 at the age of 57. She was born on March 10, 1955 on Oahu. She was a tour driver for Roberts Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hale Kanila Woolsey, Sr.
She is survived by companion; Nalani Kaneakua; mother, Kuuipo Woolsey; brother, Hale Kanila (Pat) Woosley Jr.; nieces, Kona Woolsey and Keliana (Alan) Licup and nephew Hale Kanila Woolsey III. Hanai children, Kapua, Keoua and Moku Kaneakua, and hanai grandchildren, Zoey, Zephen and Kanahawele Kaneakua.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday August 12, 2012 at Anahola beach park. Starting with a “paddle out” at 10 a.m. at “unreals” and memorial service at 11 a.m.

Florence Kazuko Miyashiro
Florence Kazuko Miyashiro of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i died on July 14, 2012, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 84. She was born August 10, 1927, in Sacramento, Calif. She was a teacher with Kaua‘i High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Miyashiro; brother, Tamotsu (George) Nagano; and sister-in-law, Natsuyo Nagano.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Rose Tamura) Miyashiro of Connecticut; two daughters, Stephanie Miyashiro of California and Laura L. Miyashiro of Kaua‘i; a brother, Michael (Beverly) Nagano of Lihu‘e; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawa‘i. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Service will begin at 10 a.m.
Family suggests casual attire and flowers be omitted.

Maurice Contrades
Maurice Coopman Contrades of Lihu‘e died on July 20, 2012, at the age of 72. He was born in Lihu‘e on September 25, 1939. Maurice was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired Kaua‘i Police Department lieutenant.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dora and Joseph K. Contrades, Jr.
He is survived by seven children, Keith (Terri) Contrades, Lorna (Gerald) Basquez, Rowena (Michael) Pangan, Rhonda (Jeff “Buck”) Garcia, Craig “Kanani” Contrades, Michael (Christiane) Tresler, and Maureen “Mahealani” (Tony) Brun; sixteen grandchildren, Trichael Pangan, Tiana Pangan, Taleea (Kai) Carvalho, Teal Basquez, Tresten Pangan, Titus “Kai’oli” Brun, Trey Contrades, Taylor Garcia, Grant Basquez, Kelli “Kilinoe” Garcia, Lindsey Nakea-Tresler, Conner Garcia, Kukahiakeaoka’ohimauna Brun, Makani Brun, Kealalani Contrades, and Alexis Nakea-Tresler; three great-grandchildren, Kaohi-Maunu Cabacungan, La’iku Carvalho and Kailea Carvalho; Nine siblings, Stanley (Jean Yim) Contrades, Patricia Happek, Monica Contrades, Susan (Dennis) Brooks, Therese Staszkow, Thomas (Jackie) Contrades, Annette (Steven) Mananday, Robert Contrades and Lisa Curtin.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Contrades family with arrangements.
Hazel Kobayashi
Hazel Harue Puanani Kobayashi of Kealia, Kauai passed away on July 24, 2012 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. She was born on March 29, 1933 on the Island of Kauai. She was a retired post master at Kealia Post Office.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Riichi and Kealoha Kubo and husband, Masuo Kobayashi.
She is survived by her son, Marc Kobayashi of Maui, Richey Kobayashi of California; hanai son, Ronald Brown of Maui; daughter, Lianne Kobayashi of Kauai; sisters, Annie Christian of Las Vegas, and Irene (Bernard) Apana of Kauai; brother, Leslie (Sybil) Kubo of Kauai; hanai niece, Cherie Paleka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday August 4, 2012 at Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, Kapaa Ward.
Visitation at 9 a.m. Service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Japanese Cemetery, Keapana.

Lynn Kawaguchi
Lynn Miyoko Kawaguchi of Ewa Beach, formerly of Puhi, Kauai died on July 24, 2012, at the age of 89. She was born in Formosa, Taiwan on December 10, 1922, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isamu Kawaguchi.
She is survived by three daughters, Hatsuko Kawaguchi, Katherine (Ichio) Nagato and Irene Hamada; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren.
Private inurnment services were held at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary assisted the Kawaguchi family with arrangements.
Helen S. Bettencourt
Helen Sadie Bettencourt of Kapaa, Kauai, died on July 29, 2012 at home at the age of 88. She was born on August 2, 1924 in Hilo, Hawaii.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Bettencourt of Kapaa; son, Clinton (Rose) Bettencourt of Kapaa; four daughters, Priscilla (Chuck) Green of Calif, Puaala (Darvin) Akui of Kapaa, Bernadette Bettencourt of Kapaa, and Nalani (Nelson) Lingaton of Kapaa; sister, Beatrice Perin of Calif; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.

Alby G. Balinong Jr.
Alby “Sarge” Balinong, 80, of Wailua passed away on July 9, 2012. Born in Kapaia on August 4, 1931 he was retired from the State of Hawaii highways division.
Preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; and daughter Patrice.
He is survived by his brother, James Anakalea; daughters, Angela Balinong, Donna Kovarik and Alexis Carvalho; son Graham Kovarik; two granddaughters Leslie Kuhaulua and Autumn Ozimec; and five great-granddaughters.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 4, 2012 at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery with visitation at 10 a.m., services and military honors to follow.
The family asks that you join them after the service for fellowship and celebration of a life lived to the fullest.

Randy Sleigh
Randy Sleigh of Princeville died at home on July 25, 2012, at the age of 59. He was born in California on November 15, 1952, and was an International Surfboard Shaper.
He is survived by his mother, Wanda Colbert; son, Joshua (Tosca) Sleigh; wife, Elaine Sleigh; stepdaughters, Autumn and Heaven; stepson, Christopher; and many worldwide friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Tunnels Beach beginning at 1 p.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Sleigh family with arrangements.
Cory Lee Johnson
Cory Lee Johnson of Yamhill, Oregon, and Anahola, Hawaii, died on July 26, 2012 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 43. He was born on March 6, 1969 in Portland, Oregon.
He is survived by his partner, Paul Spear; parents, Audra Merry and Max Johnson; brother, Jason Thomas; sister, Kimberly Hale; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held.

Toraichi Marugame
Toraichi James Marugame of Lihue, Hawaii, died on July 12, 2012 at Garden Island Healthcare at the age of 93. He was born on October 17, 1918 in Koloa, Hawaii. He was a driver and tour guide with Kauai Petroleum and Kauai Island Tours.
Preceded in death by his wife, Chiyomi Kuboyama Marugame; parents Nikichi and Chika Marugame; five brothers, Tokuichi Marugame, Jisuo Tom Marugame, Ryoichi Harry Marugame, Shoichi Slim Marugame, and Toshi Fujihara; and four sisters, Tsuna Fujihara, Yoshino Marugame, Mitsuyo Lemon, and Sueno Miyazaki.
He is survived by his two sons, Clyde (Eloise) Marugame and Lance (Aileen) Marugame, both of Honolulu; three daughters, Sharon (Clarence) S. Nonaka, Coleen (Stanley) Morinaka, and Nan (Leroy) Sakaguchi, all of Lihue; ten grandchildren, Jolene Ching of Honolulu, Renee Marugame of Honolulu, Kristi Myers of Lihue, Jodi Gusman of Lihue, Deann Sakaguchi of Hanapepe, Stanley Morinaka Jr. of Lihue, Staci Rosa of Kapaa, Ryan Sakaguchi of Honolulu, Troy Sakaguchi of Lihue, and Cori Tanimura of Honolulu; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Lihue Missionary Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Private Interment.
