A vote for Esther is one for Mufi
Esther Kia‘aina is clearly working hand in hand with Mufi Hanneman to help him get elected. She joined with Mufi after she realized that she can’t win. The strategy of Mufi/Esther is for Esther to draw progressive votes away from Tulsi Gabbard so then Mufi gets elected. Their strategy first became apparent during the Hawai‘i News Now debate.
Esther’s is playing the role of Mufi’s attack dog. This allows Mufi to do the same kind of character assassination he did against Neil Abercrombie but while keeping his hands clean.
They praised each other and asked softball questions of one another during every debate and candidate forum.
Further evidence can be seen throughout comments throughout the Internet and most recently by the letter by Nadine Newlight where she writes,”If progressive and liberal votes are split between Esther and Tulsi, and Mufi gets elected, at least we are certain he will remain a Democrat for the remainder of his term.”
This endorsement of Mufi reveals just how uncommitted to progressive values Esther and her supporters are. A vote for Esther is a vote for Mufi. Remember that.

Who are you kidding?
In answer to Sharon Pomroy, intermittent representative, Aha Moku System, I ask: What makes anyone think that the Aha Moku System, signed into law by Gov. Neil Abercrombie, with representatives duly appointed by Abercrombie, can ever be representative of the kanaka maoli (native Hawaiians)?
Why, if the current Office of Hawaiian Affairs has not succeeded in helping those qualified for homes on Hawaiian homelands (less than 20 built for over 400 qualifiers), will this change anything?

Bravo for bravery, Bynum
I find that Councilman Bynum is seldom in agreement with me regarding the views of the many issues that come before the County Council.
However, at the forum held on July 17 by the Chamber of Commerce for the nine candidates running for a council seat, Mr. Bynum made a statement that I agree with 100 percent. He said that our county is basically hiring people for top positions that do not have the experience or qualifications to be there.
As an example, he pointed to Lenny Rapozo, who the mayor appointed to be our Parks and Recreation director.
He said that Mr. Rapozo spent 25 years in a security position and does not have the experience to be the top man in that important job. He was the mayor’s campaign manager but this activity certainly did not qualify him to be our Parks director.
Bravo, Tim Bynum, for bringing this important issue to the attention of the 120 people in attendance as well as to all those listening to Radio Kong.
Let us hope that your message resonates with the voters and with those responsible for appointing or hiring people to those positions who should have the qualifications to be there.

Educate yourself, know the truth
Kanakas, Native Hawaiians and people of this land, educate yourselves. Know the truth. The Native Hawaiian Organizations (NHO) and its 8(a) firms are not in your best interest.
Why accept handouts from the State of Hawai‘i, when, in fact, you have your own nation?
A kanaka is overheard saying being in this program, he is now making the most money he has ever made in life. This is continued treachery and theft of personal values, land and nation.
Politicians, judges, safety officers and attorneys perpetuate this untruth. In court, we hear this is not a sovereignty issue.
More sleight of hand: courts of law in Hawai‘i must be judging under Kingdom of Hawai‘i law. All USA, State of Hawai‘i officials and attorneys, upon taking their office or position, swear to uphold their state and national laws. They have laws concerning these issues, and are not upholding their own laws.
Hawaii is not America.

Aloha from Debra
Suffice to say that I came, I saw and I went. Most satisfying is that it was an excellent experience. All of my expectations writing have been met, and since I’ve been “exposed,” there’s really nothing more I need to share.
So friends, with a fond farewell, I’m on a different mission and it certainly doesn’t include carrying on with the Forum or engaging in the discussion section. I am confidently moving forward, opening yet another chapter imuakaua‘i.
Onipa‘a and peace, love, dove.

Too many regular writers
Born and raised on Kaua‘i, moved away about four years ago. Thank God for The Garden Island. I don’t check it out every day but when I do, I see the same people in the letters to the editor over and over again, and rebuttals from the same people over and over again! It’s getting so old.
The Garden Island should stop catering to these regulars and print more happy and positive things. In fact, omit the letters to the editor! LOL.
