Happy Camper for Monday, July 30, 2012
Kristina Ozawa and Karly Shimamoto (ask her to say her name — it’s cool!) were vacationing from Gardena, Calif., with uncle Wade Yamamoto who was able to get the girls to ride in a 1957 Chevrolet (visit thegardenisland.com for a pix) during the Koloa Plantation Days parade.
Another pair of Californians, James Ramos and Conor Hennessey, both of Los Angeles, were lucky enough to score on a pair of Kamoa tenor ukes with help from Gigi Crocona of The Ukulele Shop in Koloa.
Gigi had a DVD of her son Sam Bonanno playing a hollow-body steel string uke and Ben Ahn (he was providing entertainment at the plantation display, Monday) said he already knows about that unique instrument.
Bobby Malabana, another Californian, was able to take advantage of a break in the Traditional Outdoor Games at the Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation to get some net throwing tips from Thomas Apilado. But Scott Johnson had the best guest who came from Dusseldorf, Germany, and got to ride Paulo (made in Dusseldorf) during the parade.
