PO‘IPU — Two new retail shops are open and a third is scheduled to open in early fall, said Stacie Chiba, assistant real estate manager at The Shops at Kukui‘ula.
Sally Ann Hammond, owner of Olivine Beach Boutique, is still awaiting her store sign, but opened her doors to the public last Monday, coinciding with the plantation display and outdoor movies during the Koloa Plantation Days celebration.
“Olivine is named after my birthstone,” Hammond said. “Our displays are still a work in progress. I’m trying to see how to display some of the jewelry pieces on olivine.”
Her partner, Robert Siems, an artist and cartographer, is helping her with some of the finish work on the shop geared for trendy women’s clothing and accessories.
Joining the line of dresses and trendy fashion, Hammond has selected pieces of jewelry which complement her fashion offerings, several of the pieces coming from Kaua‘i artists.
“This is a fun store and I can’t wait until everything is done,” Hammond said.
Olivine Beach Boutique is located on the mauka, or mountain side, of the mall, adjacent to the Tommy Bahama shop. It will be open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., seven days a week.
On the other end of the mall, near Merriman’s , Blue Ginger and Blue Ginger Kids opened its doors two weeks ago, said Chiba, who has been in her position since January.
Blue Ginger offers women’s fashions for family women, complemented with fashions for the younger family members. The appeal of this family attire worked like a magnet, the shop attracting an overflow crowd at the Culinary Community Market coordinated in partnership with the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau on Wednesday afternoons.
Helaine Perel, real estate manager at The Shops at Kuku‘iula, said she is happy with the two new additions and pleased they are doing well. Located between the two new shops, a sign touted the anticipated opening of The Dolphin Restaurant, Fish Market and Sushi Lounge. The sign states that the new facility is affiliated with the Hanalei Dolphin.
The shop is currently under construction and Chiba said if everything goes as scheduled, The Dolphin should be welcoming customers in September or October.
These additions add to the 13 current shops offering fashion, gifts and decor, five galleries, a gourmet grocer and two service facilities.
