Local companies donate $300K to nature group
HONOLULU — With contributions from almost 80 businesses, The Nature Conservancy of Hawai‘i’s Corporate Council for the Environment raised $300,000 for local conservation in Fiscal Year 2012.
Dustin Sellers, president of ProService Hawai‘i and a Conservancy trustee, chairs the Corporate Council, which since its launch in 1987 as a coalition of local businesses, has raised nearly $4 million.
Businesses that supported the Corporate Council at the leadership level ($10,000-plus) are: Alaska Airlines, Alexander & Baldwin Foundation, Aulani-A Disney Resort & Spa, Hawaiian Electric Industries, HEI Charitable Foundation/Hawaiian Electric Company, James Campbell Company, Macy’s Foundation, Monsanto Fund, Outrigger Enterprises Group, ProService Hawai‘i, Skyline Eco-Adventures, and The Shidler Family Foundation.
Jamba Juice rolls out new local flavors
LIHU‘E — The Hawaiian Superfruit debuts at Jamba Kukui Grove next week. Two local companies, Jamba Hawai‘i and KonaRed have teamed up create two new Jamba products made with KonaRed juice. The innovative Kona Berry Blast Smoothie and Kona Berry Bowl roll out at all Jamba Hawai‘i locations (excluding the University of Hawai‘i campus) next Thursday, Aug. 2.
Hawaiian Air parent reports net income
HONOLULU — Hawaiian Holdings, Inc., parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. (“Hawaiian”), reported consolidated net income for the three months ended June 30, 2012, of $3.9 million, or 7 cents per diluted share, on total operating revenue of $484.6 million, a press release states.
This compares to a net loss of $50 million, or 99 cents per basic and diluted share, on total operating revenue of $395 million for the three months ended June 30, 2011. Results for the three months ended June 30, 2011, included the impact of a non-recurring pre-tax lease termination expense of $70 million related to the purchase of 15 Boeing 717-200 aircraft previously operated under lease agreements.
New breakfast service
PO‘IPU — Tortilla Republic in the Shops at Kukui’ula in Poipu announced in a press release the addition of daily breakfast service from 7 a.m. to 11, Monday through Saturday.
Tortilla Republic opened in August 2011, and features modern Mexican cuisine. Owners John Halter, Morten Kaag and Jordan James partnered with interior designer Kirk Pereira, to design Tortilla Republic to include custom furniture inspired by their travels to Mexico. Executive Chef Cathy Shyne has created a farm-to-table menu using fresh ingredients and organic produce, executed by Chef de Cuisine Jimmy Stafford.
Hawaiian ranks highest among domestic carriers
HONOLULU — Hawaiian Airlines is ranked highest of all domestic carriers serving Hawai‘i and third overall in the category of domestic carriers in the 2012 ‘World’s Best Awards’ announced by Travel and Leisure magazine, a press release states.
Travel and Leisure’s readers determined the rankings of domestic carriers nationwide by responding to a survey in which they were asked to rate the airlines’ performance in four categories prized by travelers: cabin comfort, inflight service, customer service, and value.
