LIHU‘E — Lisa Ellen Smith, appointed by Gov. Neil Abercrombie to be Kaua‘i’s representative to the Hawai‘i State on the Commission for Status of Women, will be the guest speaker at the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i meeting Thursday at the Regency at Puakea.

Smith is the ex officio on the County of Kaua‘i Commission for the Status of Women and has served on that commission for five years.
In 2007, Smith served as co-chair of the Kaua‘i League of Women Voters.
She also has been the County of Kaua‘i’s Coastal Zone Management Planner and is a member of the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners.
During the meeting, Smith will offer an overview of the legislative process and an update on the 2012 legislative session to the Zonta of Kaua‘i during the club’s monthly meeting which are held on the first Thursday of each month.
The Hawai‘i State Commission for the Status of Women was established to recommend legislative action on equal treatment and opportunities for women.
It also seeks to create public awareness and understanding of the responsibilities, needs and contributions of women and their roles in the changing society.
