LIHU‘E — Three Anahola families are benefiting from the efforts of Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity and the Kaua‘i Board of Realtors in Build-A-Thon 2012.
On Aug. 4 and 5, real estate professionals and KBR affiliates on Kaua‘i will raise money for Habitat and take up hammers and saws to help build affordable homes for the Fernandez, Ka‘aihue-Paopao and Napoleon families in Phase One of the Pi‘ilani Mai Ke Kai subdivision in Anahola.
“The goal of Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity’s Build-A-Thon events is to raise money, support and awareness for the affordable housing crisis on Kaua‘i,” Habitat’s Executive Director Stephen Spears says in a press release.
“Rising housing and land costs has increased the demand for safe, affordable housing on Kaua‘i. With over 1,800 families interested in partnering with us, the need for affordable homes on Kaua‘i is greater than ever.”
The Build-A-Thon is a community event that brings together volunteers, donors and supporters to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. Much like a walk-a-thon, Build-A-Thon volunteers engage family and friends to financially sponsor their volunteer hours with Habitat.
KBR has developed a multi-pronged program with Habitat for Humanity that strengthens the ongoing commitment between the two nonprofit entities, the release states. Participants do not need building experience but must be at least 18 years old.
“I’m proud to see us moving forward in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity on Kaua‘i,” Matt Beall, KBR president and a Hawai‘i Life Real Estate Brokers owner, says in the release. “It’s the culmination of a couple of years of meetings and planning and it’s a perfect fit for the Realtor community and its commitment to providing housing on Kaua‘i.”
