HONOLULU — The University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents and President M.R.C. Greenwood honored and recognized 30 Hawai‘i students who have been awarded the prestigious Regents and Presidential Scholarships at an annual awards dinner in their honor on July 19 at The Willows Restaurant in Honolulu.
John Rommel Gawaran, a Waimea High School graduate, was among the 30 students who were awarded a full tuition waiver. His anticipated major is computer engineering.
The UH Board of Regents established the Regents and Presidential Scholarships to support Hawai‘i students with a record of outstanding academic achievement. Its intent is to retain the best and brightest of Hawai‘i’s students here in the islands to attend UH and provide a quality higher education experience so they may go on to share their academic and personal growth with the state.
More than 300 students applied for the 2012 scholarships, of which only 20 Regents Scholarships are available to outstanding high school seniors and 10 Presidential Scholarships are available to incoming college juniors.
