PO‘IPU — The body recovered Tuesday floating off of Shipwreck’s Beach has been tentatively identified as a 35-year-old Caucasian male.
The victim’s name and city of residence is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to a Wednesday news release from Kaua‘i Police Department.
On Tuesday at around 5:30 p.m., a hiker notified police that a body was seen floating near the rocks.
Firefighters were first on the scene and located the victim approximately a quarter-mile east of Shipwreck’s Beach. Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 helicopter assisted police in recovering the body.
An autopsy is currently being conducted, according to the news release. There is no timeline of when it will be complete and the results made public.
The incident remains under police investigation. However, the police do not believe foul play was a factor in the man’s death.
