According to Kaua‘i Fire Department, the group was hiking along the Makaleha Stream on Saturday afternoon.
They became stranded when the stream began rising quickly, a County of Kaua‘i press release states.
One of the hikers called 911 at approximately 3 p.m. and notified dispatch about their situation.
Air-1 with Rescue 3 aboard was dispatched to the scene, the release states.
The hikers, four from Kaua‘i, three from California, one from Massachusetts, and one from Australia, were airlifted in five trips to the trailhead at the end of Kahuna Road and released. No injuries were reported.
