Kristi Akamine, one of the Beyond the Gold 2012 Sports Camp leaders, said the group wrapped up another successful year, Friday.
This year, more than 170 youth participated at the Kalaheo site and another 60 were registered at the Wailua site at the event coordinated by Uncharted Waters Sports Ministry.
Akamine said Vaughn Beyer of the Lihu‘e Missionary Church noted Gaylen Fujii of Roberts Hawai‘i has been donating bus transportation for the past two years to be able to have children participate in the week-long event.
The Vidinha Charitable Trust contribution, this year, paid for 60 childen to attend camp, a day of snacks and lunches for more than 200 campers and volunteers as well as transportation costs for about 75 children from the Lihu‘e area to attend camp.
The Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, through its Sharing of Aloha grant, helped the camp acquire soccer balls, basketballs and shoes for the campers.
“Our thanks goes to all of our generous donors and volunteers for helping make this year’s sports camps in Kalaheo and Wailua Houselots Park a fun and memorable week for the children,” Akamine said in an email.
The next year’s Beyond the Gold Sports Camp is scheduled for the third week in July, leaders said.
