Camela Sasan
Camela Sabala Sasan of Puhi passed away peacefully at the Regency at Puakea home on July 4, 2012 at the age of 79. She was born in Waimea, Kauai on March 21, 1933. As a trained Licensed Practical Nurse she worked at all three hospitals on Kauai and was at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital when she was retired in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred G. Sasan; brothers, Julian Sabala and Richard Sabala; sisters, Esperanza Takabayashi Lacuesta and Rosita Santiago. She is survived by her son Frederick (Lori) Sasan, daughter Melanie (John) Borales; sisters, Juanita Umipeg and Eleanora Manaday; brother, Sunday (Paciencia) Sabala; grandchildren, Malia (Colin) Ceda, Joshua (Mackenzie) Rapanot, Iris (Joe) Rapanot, Scot Sasan, Jonathan Borales, Lorinda Sasan; great-grandchildren, Andrew Rapanot, Derek Terzi, Zipporah Ceda, Ananiah Ceda, Josiah Ceda, Isaiah Ceda; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A remembrance ceremony of her life will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Lihue Missionary Church, 4383 Rice Street with a family visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the services to follow at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment and committal ceremonies will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012, at Kauai Memorial Gardens, 4716 Maalo Rd. at 10:00 a.m.

Damaso Perlas
Damaso “Daso” Perlas of Puhi, Kaua‘i, passed away peacefully at his home on July 7, 2012, at the age of 77. He was born Dec. 11, 1934, in Kekaha, raised in Niumalu, and retired as a bellman at the Kaua‘i Marriott Hotel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aurellia “Nina” Perlas; parents, Feliciano and Luisa Perlas; and sister, Augustina “Tina” Tomacder.
He is survived by two daughters, Alicia (Tyrus) Miyashiro of Puhi and Michelle Perlas of Hanama‘ulu; son, Michael Perlas of Puhi; half-brother, Willie (Rosaline) Ng; half-sister, Dorothy Zane of Honolulu; three grandchildren, Jordan Perlas, Kaytlyn Perlas, and Tyrus “Boolah” Miyashiro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens. Family suggests casual attire.

Elizabeth A. Taniguchi Kaohelaulii of Makaweli, Kauai, passed away on July 7, 2012, at the age of 70, born on April 20, 1942, in Waimea, Kauai. She was a retired bus driver for the County of Kauai. Preceded in death by: husband, Palenapa M. H. Kaohelaulii, Sr.; parents, Nicholas and Ellen Taniguchi. Survived by: sons, Rusty Kaohelaulii; Dexter (Angela) Kaohelaulii; Casey (Katie) Kaohelaulii; Palenapa (Rileene) Kaohelaulii Jr.; daughters, Valerie (Louis) Matias; Sherry (Jason) Matias; hanai son, Opu’ulani (Elea) Kahokuloa; brothers, Kazue (Raelae) Taneguchi; Feliciano (Lynn) Vea; Sonny Vea; Hanohano Vea; sisters, Anita (Delbert) Lewis; Maryanne (Joe) Kanahele; hanai brothers, Carl (Maureen) Dusenberry; Douglas (Linda) Dusenberry; hanai sister, Elsie Mae Nishi; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary, Koloa, visitation at 1 p.m. service at 3 p.m. Cremation to follow.

John Tanabe
John Tanabe passed away on July 10, 2012 in Torrance, California, at the age of 82. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ho; brothers, Kiyoshi Tanabe; Mikio Tanabe and Fred Tanabe; in-laws Janice Tanabe and Bill Blaine and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the Veteran’s Cemetary in Kauai, Hawaii.
