On July 7, The Garden Isle Racing Association hosted the 3rd annual Rudy Ramos Independence Day Race at Kaua‘i Raceway Park in Mana.
Dozens of domestic and imported cars, racing bikes, dragsters and junior dragsters sped their way upon the raceway, competing for prizes, trophies and pride.
Besides the dozens of roaring engines, an enthusiastic crowd was on hand to witness the biggest drag race of the year.
For the racers and spectators alike, the drags are a traditional and spirited gathering where they all have a good ‘ol time.
Around noon, a dust devil was cause for concern; however, to the delight of everyone, it weakened after two minutes.
The day began when gates opened at 11 a.m., followed by timed trials at 2 p.m.
After timed trials, the Rudy Ramos Parade began at 7 p.m.
The event culminated when racers flexed their motors on the strip at 8 p.m.
