PO‘IPU — Keiki ‘ukulele players from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate in the free Keiki ‘Ukes in Paradise Contest sponsored by Keoki’s Paradise and Kamoa ‘Ukulele on July 29 at Keoki’s Paradise in the Po‘ipu Shopping Village.
PO‘IPU — Keiki ‘ukulele players from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate in the free Keiki ‘Ukes in Paradise Contest sponsored by Keoki’s Paradise and Kamoa ‘Ukulele on July 29 at Keoki’s Paradise in the Po‘ipu Shopping Village.
“We wanted to offer something for the keiki as well as something different for the Koloa Plantation Days celebration,” said Manette DeCosta, marketing director of Keoki’s Paradise. “The Keiki ‘Ukes in Paradise Contest will close the week-long celebration of the Koloa Plantation Days.”
There is no charge for keiki to enter the contest. Entry forms are available at Keoki’s Paradise, or online at www.keokisparadise.com/uke.
Entry into the contest also includes the Keoki’s Paradise lunch buffet.
Deadline for receiving the applications is July 23. Applications can be submitted by mail, fax or in person.
The contest will unfold July 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Keoki’s Paradise with ‘ukulele players competing in five divisions: Division 1, kindergarten through second grade; Division 2, third through fifth grades; Division 3, sixth through eighth grade; Division 4, ninth through twelfth grades; and an Open Division, encompassing groups of up to four members.
Aloha attire is recommended for all players, who will be judged on a brief introduction including name, grade completed and school attending, as well as ‘ukulele performances including strumming, rhythm and picking, stage presence, off-stage attitude, originality and keeping within the six-minute time limit.
No electrical effect pedals or distortion boxes will be allowed for the competition.
Group division allows up to four contestants with at least one ‘ukulele player in groups of two and two ‘ukulele players in groups of three or four.
Players can be inter-mixed in grade levels and ‘ukulele players in the solo division are also allowed to enter in the open group division.
Prizes include ‘ukulele, event T-shirts, Keoki’s Paradise merchandise, gift certificates and more. All contestants receive a complimentary lunch buffet.
No outside food or beverage will be allowed. Guests and spectators may indulge in the Keoki’s lunch buffet, including an iced tea, for $15, including tax and gratuity.
