KAPA‘A — Calvary Chapel Kaua‘i will be hosting guest speaker Victor Marx, a motivational speaker who reaches out to the youth, this weekend.
On Saturday at 7 p.m. the church will show the newly released film “The Victor Marx Story,” a documentary of his life. Marx also will be speaking at the church’s service on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
Calvary Chapel Kaua‘i is located on the Kapa‘a Bypass Road, half a mile from the Kapa‘a Ball/Skate Park or 1.7 miles from the Wailua entrance to the Kapa‘a Bypass Road, in the big white tent.
Marx’s message is aimed at youth, especially incarcerated youth, states a news release from the church. Born to an absent drug dealer and pimp father who didn’t claim him, Marx was left for dead in a cooler by a child molester at the age of 5.
By the time he graduated from elementary school, he was doing drugs in an effort to escape the emotional pain of his childhood. By the time he graduated from high school, he’d endured abuse from several stepfathers, attended 14 different schools and lived in 17 different houses.
As an adult, he was diagnosed with mental illness and post-traumatic stress disorder. While it seemed as if there was no way out and he could have chosen to remain a victim, he instead, learned what it means to become victorious, the release states. As a motivational speaker, that’s the message he brings to youth of all social and economic status nationwide and to those who are locked away in youth prisons, according to the news release.
