LIHU‘E — A Lihu‘e man pleaded no contest to a reduced sexual assault charge Tuesday in 5th Circuit Court.
Keola Spencer Harris, 19, of Lihu‘e, pleaded no contest to an amended charge of third-degree sexual assault. It was amended from the original two counts of first-degree sexual assault charge he was arrested for on April 26.
In the plea agreement, the state, represented by County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Arin, recommended five year’s probation and up to six months in jail. The agreement also demanded restitution and a psychosexual evaluation.
Arin said the crimes involved a vulnerable individual. The crimes allegedly occurred between Jan. 1 and March 19.
Harris remains in custody at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center. A bail study has been ordered and remains set at $40,000.
Judge Kathleen N. A. Watanabe said the Class C felony could bring up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. She set the sentencing date for Oct. 10.
