LIHU‘E — The death of a Wainiha man Tuesday on Kuhio Highway has been ruled an accident.
A county press release said Thursday that Kaua‘i Fire Department and medics responded with police to the scene of a reported traffic collision just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, and confirmed that the victim, Govinda Jaya Bonderov, 40, was deceased upon arrival.
According to police, Bonderov lost control of his Nissan SUV along Kuhio Highway, just north of the Lumaha’i Bridge. His body was found pinned partially outside of his driver-side door, which had struck a guardrail along the southbound lane.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision, according to the release. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday to determine the cause of Bonderov’s death.
The investigation remains ongoing. However, police said there is no evidence to suspect foul play.
This is Kaua‘i’s fourth traffic-related fatality this year, according to the county.
