Thank heaven for Bruce Smalling! Dickie Chang said he had a Kaua‘i Grown cap when he left the Mayor-a-thon aboard a bicycle, and by the time he got back, the cap was in the middle of a canal and Bruce got him a helmet instead.
Kudos to Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. and Bev Brody on getting this off the ground! The question is what time did Dee and Ken Morikawa have to get up to make it to Kapa‘a from Waimea.
Derek Kawakami had his family on hand to enjoy the event and Kevin Matsunaga (he’s got a media camp going on this week) had his CKTV kids working to video the event.
Coach Noel Frohman Flibott and her Wahine Beach Volleyball girls from San Diego, Calif., found the event just as the Zumba started (makes for good Facebook material) and went on to check in with Sheri Saari and Dr. Carl Berg at the International Surfing Day beach cleanup at Kealia Beach.
Just a little ways down, Billy Swain was doing his thing with the Kealia Surf Festival (coconut water and mango smoothie hit the spot!).
