Kalaheo Cafe & Coffee Company, located at 2-2560 Kaumuali‘i Hwy., offers a full range of delights: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and a full espresso bar.
Owners John and Kristina Ferguson opened Kalaheo Cafe & Coffee Company in May 1994, and business, since then, has been great.
“We spent our first 12 years in between Scotty’s Music and Menehune Food Mart in Kalaheo,” John Ferguson explained. “Then, in 2001, we purchased the property that we’re on today, built it in 2004 and we opened the doors in 2005.”
From 1986 to 1991, Ferguson served as executive chef for the Waiohai Beach Resort. Ferguson’s valuable experience and knowledge of the culinary industry was key in the creation of the cafe’s popular dishes.
Breakfast dishes such as the Tropical Sweet Bread French Toast priced at $7.95 and the Lawa‘i Farmer’s Omelet priced at $11.50 are popular mainstays among locals and tourists.
Since March, 2011, the dinner menu has since been revitalized, offering high-quality dishes that are delicious and upscale.
“We’ve been doing dinner since 2005,” Ferguson added, “(We) took a short hiatus from it a couple of years because of the economy, and came back with it just last year.”
The Miso Glazed Island Catch with asparagus tempura, market priced around $24.95 to $26.95, and the Greek Style Garden Fresh Pasta Primavera, priced at $16.95, are wonderful dinner items sure to make any night magnifique.
“We like to mix it up, so we develop a good following,” Ferguson said. “It’s been successful so far.”
A wide range of Hawaiian and flavored coffees are also available. Blends such as the Kalaheo Morning Blend, $9.95 a bag, is similar to the classic Moka Java with a Hawaiian twist. Most blends range from $9.25 to $9.95, with the exception of the Kona Extra Fancy Dark Roast — a deep, rich and aromatic coffee priced at $18.95 and worth every penny.
