Golfers have until Saturday to earn a certificate for a free round of golf valued at $40 on the Kiele Waikahe/Kiele Mauka 18 holes, said Kenneth Kimura of the Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club.
The free golf accompanies registration for the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club 2nd annual Kapiolani Children’s Miracle Network Golf Tournament which will be played Saturday with check-in starting at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
The event is coming off a successful Easter Seals Golf Tournament on Sunday in which a Jack Harter helicopter rained about 2,000 golf balls with the lucky ball earning its holder a trip to Las Vegas courtesy of Vacations Hawai‘i.
Kaua‘i Lagoons, host site for the Waiohai/Children’s Miracle Network golf tournament, is offering the free round of golf for registering in the tournament.
Tournament format is a four-person scramble with a maximum individual handicap of 24 for men and 36 for women. The golf committee reserves the right to change handicaps. The team handicap will equal 10 percent of the combined handicap of all players on the team.
Registration fee is $95 per player, or $380 for a team and includes greens fee, cart and pupu at the end of the tournament.
Mulligans, sold at the tournament, are available at three for $15, individually, or $60 for a team.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and last place net team score and there will be prize holes for the longest drive and closest to the pin.
The tournament was started last year by Ben Simao, a front desk associate at the Waiohai. He said he and his wife Stephanie cannot forget the experience they had with the Children’s Miracle Network when their daughter Taislee was born three months premature in 2009.
Simao said organizing the golf tournament is a way his family is giving back for how the Children’s Miracle Network has blessed his family and other families on Kaua‘i.
All the funds generated by the tournament will be contributed to the Children’s Miracle Network with 100 percent remaining in Hawai‘i to benefit Hawai‘i families.
