Fire fighters are still at the scene of a brush fire that broke out last night at approximately 11:15 p.m. on a bluff overlooking Lumahai Bay.
Although the fire was deemed under control at 5:44 this morning, Engine 1 and Truck 1 are continuing to put out hot spots.
Air 1 was called in to do water drops on the roots of the smoldering brush at 6:30 a.m. and completed multiple drops until 10 a.m.
Earlier Truck 8, Truck 2 and Rescue 3 were also part of this firefighting effort.
In the early morning hours, the Lihu‘e fire station received a 1:20 a.m. alarm about a structure fire at Island Cars in phase two of Lihu‘e Industrial Park. As it turned out, several vehicles had caught on fire, and the fire spread to a section of the warehouse.
The Lihu‘e fire crew extinguished the blaze at 1:45 a.m.
An employee of Island Cars who was working in the building at the time of the fire sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Wilcox Hospital in a private vehicle for treatment.
Two cars were completely destroyed along with two scooters and a motorcycle, and three cars were damaged. Fire officials estimate damages to the warehouse and its contents to be $200,000.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Today, fire crews are responding to a brush fire in Hanapepe Valley and one on Koke‘e. Details on these fires are forthcoming.
