Kaua‘i Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol cadets departed Lihu‘e Airport aboard a Hawai‘i Air National Guard C-17 Globemaster III aircraft Saturday.
Flying to the Hickam Air Force Base on O‘ahu, the cadets will be at the Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i, joining other CAP cadets of the Hawai‘i Wing for its annual summer week-long encampment in Kane‘ohe.
“The week-long activity introduces our young men and women to a military-type lifestyle, teaches them valuable team-building skills and provides opportunities for leadership development,” said Major Susan Caires, CAP public affairs officer, in an email. “The U.S. Air Force Auxiliary’s CAP cadet program is unique in that it uses aviation as a cornerstone in a curriculum which includes aerospace education, leadership training and physical fitness.”
Cadet members of the Kaua‘i Composite Squadron meet Tuesday evenings at the Lihu‘e Airport CAP Hanger.
