LIHU‘E — The state Department of Education’s School Food Services Branch is providing meals at 49 public schools islandwide without charge this summer — Monday through Friday, except June 11, 22 and 29 — to all children 18 years old and younger.
Three Kaua‘i schools will participate in the program; Kapa‘a, Kekaha and Koloa elementary schools.
The Summer Food Service Program for Children is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. An eligible school must have 50 percent or more of its regular enrolled students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches and some type of summer program on campus, but meal recipients do not have to be enrolled in those programs.
