Marty and Kathy Leonard had a busy weekend, starting Friday when Marty, the new band director at Waimea High School, got the students to turn out and provide some spirit during the Blue-and-White football game at Hanapepe Stadium. The band was joined by Roxanne Cardejon and the award-winning cheer squad.
Dennis Haack was on the medical staff at the game and due to the early ending, was able to join daughter Heather and Laura on the chin cello at the Hanapepe Art Night (Sandy Poehnelt is back from the Arrubas).
Hats off to Arthur Brun who did a great job on the mic (12 pieces of ono chicken for $10!) and kudos to Waimea coach Keali‘i Aguiar and Athletic Director Jon Kobayashi for a great evening.
Concheta Ijima stayed home from the Honolulu lantern release so she could collect food for the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank (only got until Thursday to drop off food to the credit unions) and Frank Ranger swung by to drop off collection supplies.
OK, time to go check out the Memorial Day service and Da Bash championships.
