KAPA‘A — Notorious ripped out a 20-10 final quarter over Manny’s Sports to take a 39-31 win Tuesday night in the first of three basketball games in the Men’s 18 and Over league at the Kapa‘a High School gym.
Allen Calumag topped Notorious with 12 points followed by big man Chad Koga lending six points in the very physical game, which ended in a 7-7 deadlock following the opening quarter.
Manny’s Sports broke the tie and surged to an 18-15 halftime lead before succumbing to Notorious, which bucketed a 24-13 second half en route to the win.
Brian Andres topped the Manny’s Sports effort on 10 points followed by V.J. Carineo with eight points.
The Kings, one of the leading teams in the league, lit up the scoreboard when six of nine players hit double-digit scoring in a 90-39 win over Hanakila. The Hanalei and Kilauea area team got 13 points from Mark Roslin and nine from Matthew Cummings.
Olin Claussen topped the Kings’ showing with 17 points, including five from outside the three-point arc, followed by Trent Thompson and Tony Brewer adding 16 points apiece and Axefaio Brewer rounding out the scoring leaders with 13 points.
Overall, the Kings hit 10 three-pointers, including the five from Claussen, 28 buckets and a 4-for-5 showing at the foul line compared with Hanakila’s three treys, 12 buckets and a 6-for-9 performance at the line.
Rich Colipano took the Kaua‘i Ballers on its speed run, staying ahead of Tropang-L for its 68-56 win in the nightcap.
Lance Miyashiro topped the Kaua‘i Ballers’ scoring with 20 points followed by Noa Colipano and Makana Aki lending eight points each.
J.R. Punzalan finished with a game-high 24 points to lead the Tropang-L effort followed by James Badua adding 16 points, Tropang-L staying in the game with its five three-balls compared to the Kaua‘i Ballers’ single trey, but Rich Colipano’s boys romping for 30 field goals to Tropang-L’s 14.
Following a three-game set at the Bernice Hundley Thursday, the Men’s 18 and Over league returns to the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center for two games Friday.
Notorious will be on the floor against the Kings starting at 6 p.m. followed by the SupaStars taking on Tropang-L starting at 7 p.m.
