PUHI — Ron Wood, the on-air personality for FM97, was greeted by a crowd anxious to get going with Bingo Wednesday evening at the Regency at Puakea.
Wood, the celebrity caller for the Bingo night, had his entourage of supporters as the activity room at the retirement community quickly filled for the one-hour free Bingo session, the Bingo players exchanging witticisms with the disc jockey.
“Four corners,” called Charlie Rebb, a Regency resident, to which Wood answered, “First, we do the regular Bingo.”
Sharon Lasker, the Regency director of marketing, said this is the second quarterly Kupuna Bingo Night and is free to the community.
“We usually try to keep it to one hour, but it all depends,” Lasker said. “We have pupu, beverages and lots of Bingo with prizes.”
The event is made possible through the sponsorships of both FM97 and The Garden Island newspaper as well as Flowers Forever, Kaua‘i Family magazine, Starbucks Coffee at Kukui Grove Center and Supercuts in Kapa‘a.
“This is a good crowd,” Wood said. “The first one we held was raining, but tonight, the weather’s clear and people are ready for Bingo.”
The Regency at Puakea is a retirement and assisted living facility in Lihu‘e.
