CLAREMONT, Calif. — Tyson Akira Kaleiho‘ola Chihara, of Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i, has graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in Asian American Studies. The College’s 119th Commencement Exercises were held on
CLAREMONT, Calif. — Tyson Akira Kaleiho‘ola Chihara, of Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i, has graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in Asian American Studies.
The College’s 119th Commencement Exercises were held on May 13.
While a student, Chihara earned the Pomona College Scholar Distinction for outstanding academic performance. He was appointed student liaison to the sociology department.
A member of the Pomona-Pitzer men’s swim team for four years, Chihara swam the individual medley and breaststroke events. He was awarded the Team Scholar All-American Award as third in the nation for academic achievement from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
Chihara was named captain of the men’s swim team in his senior year. While a student, Chihara held jobs as a museum assistant and an athletic student trainer.
Chihara has been awarded a scholarship to attend Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, Calif. and will pursue a career in law.
Tyson is a graduate of Kaua‘i High School.
He is the son of Ted and Paula Chihara of Lihu‘e.
