This was a first event for Kaua‘i, and kudos to Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr., Beth Tokioka (she was missing Pono playing at the U.S. Open Qualifier at The Club at Kukui‘ula), Rep. Dee Morikawa (she was at the OHA community meeting, too) and Rep. Derek Kawakami for sharing their wisdom with the honorees.
Jason Fujinaka did a great job emcee-ing the event (did I hear he was heading to the Heritage Music Festival next year?).
Of course, Ron Wiley was busy at the unveiling of Kukui Grove’s electric charging station where he was trying to get Michael Buono to call him for an on-air interview.
Kudos to Jonell Kaohelaulii for pulling everything together and the event was even better because Jean Souza was treating her off-island guests to some Starbucks/Jamba treats following their Kaua‘i Community College meeting.
OK, time to set the alarm to meet the docs at G.N. Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
