LIHU‘E — Following a year in which he led the Waimea Menehune to the Division II state championship game, Mikeo Rita has been named the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Association’s Player of the Year, a release from the KIF states.
The Waimea senior dominated the field on the mound throughout the season and contributed as a shortstop and at the plate.
Rita was joined by four other Menehune on the 2012 KIF Baseball All-Star team. Alika Emayo (catcher), Brock Ephan (First Base), BJ Freitas (Second Base) and outfielder Jordan Kamakea were all named to the team.
Waimea’s head coach, Michael Rita, was named the KIF Coach of the Year.
From the Round 1 champion Kaua‘i Red Raiders, Kellen Aquino (Outfield), Jensen Koga (Third Base) and Erin Doi (Utility) made the team.
The Kapa‘a Warriors placed three players on the roster as well. Rashaan Kuhaulua (pitcher), Bronson Aiwohi (Shortstop) and outfielder Kalen Iwai were listed as All-Stars.
