The Waimea High School volleyball team starts its bid for the New City Nissan Boys Volleyball State Championships, Division II, at 5 p.m. Thursday against No. 4 seed Hawai‘i Prep at the Kaimuki High School gym on O‘ahu.
With just eight teams involved in the Division II championships, Waimea, the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion, was one of four teams that did not receive a seed for the division.
Top seed in Division II is Hawai‘i Baptist, which opens against Kahuku at 7 p.m. at Kaimuki High School in the quarterfinals.
Second seed is Seabury Hall, which opens against Kohala of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation starting at 7 p.m. at the Kalani High School gym.
No. 3 seed goes to the McKinley High School Tigers. The Tigers open against Pahoa, also of the BIIF, starting at 5 p.m. at Kalani High School.
Championships for the Division II boys volleyball will start at 5 p.m. Saturday at Neall Blaisdell Arena.
Punahou earned the top seed in the Division I championship bracket, which features 12 teams. Play will start Wednesday at the McKinley High School gym.
Moanalua High School earned the No. 2 seed slot, with Kamehameha School-Big Island getting the No. 3 seed and King Kekaulike getting the No. 4 seed.
The championship game for Division I boys volleyball is Saturday at 7 p.m., also at Blaisdell Arena.
