Congratulations to Waimea coach Michael Rita, his staff, and his Menehune baseball players on securing the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation baseball title Saturday!
With no other KIF sports on the calendar, it was nice to work with the full media complement of Anahola Joel Pahukula on the Hawai‘i Media airways, Tyson Alger of TGI, and, of course, the official KIF scorekeeper Glenn Mickens.
Mikeo Rita was throwing a one-hitter and, to fill the void, conversation centered around the yellow jacket wasps which Anahola Joel said were attracted to him since he is a “wasp and centipede magnet.”
Mark Tanaka said he came to the game because the last time he attended a playoff, Kaua‘i High won. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen Saturday and Mark had to go back to Lihu‘e to pick up his wife Joey and return for the Relay for Life.
Tommy John Cox was also at the game, but I guess when Rita is throwing a one-hitter, nobody gets on base.
OK, ‘nuff said…it’s off to the airport. The Lions’ international director is arriving for the big Lions Club convention later this week at Waimea Plantation Cottages.
