The Garden Island Racing Association will take advantage of the Good Friday holiday to host a two-day drag racing event at the Kaua‘i Raceway Park in Mana.
“The racers are getting restless and instead of hearing the thunder from Mother Nature, race fans would rather be hearing the thunder from thousands of horsepower,” Kerri Villa of the GIRA said in a news release.”We’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, and racing officials and enthusiasts will start the opening season with two days of racing action.”
Last month’s season opener was canceled following the arrival of rains and thunderstorms.
Races are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Gates open at 11 a.m., timed trials run from 2 to 6 p.m. and bracket racing competition starts at 7 p.m. on both nights.
Villa said on tap are rubber-laying door slammers, blown fuel cars, dragsters, muscle cars, boosted imports, bikes, sweet street rides and Junior Dragsters piloted by kids between ages 8 and 17.
Admission is $12 per person with children 12 and under admitted free.
The GIRA drag races are sponsored by Kaua‘i Auto Repair, King Auto Center, Auto Stylin’ and Performance, PS and D Napa Auto Parts, Kaua‘i Toyota, Txturz Hair Design, Garden Isle Portable Toilets, Garden Island Motorsports, Manny’s Repair, Kaua‘i Fire Protection, Ramos Excavation and Syngenta Seeds.
