LIHU‘E — American Red Cross volunteers on Saturday held out their hats outside the Walmart store for donations to fund the work of the nonprofit on Kaua‘i.
East Kaua‘i Lions Club members joined the Hats Off fundraising drive that was also under way Saturday outside the Foodland store in Princeville and Big Save store in Hanapepe. The event continues today at Walmart.
“We’re just volunteers that want to help out,” Red Cross volunteer Richard Etzel said outside the Walmart store in Lihu‘e on Saturday.
“It’s a timely event with the extra demand for help from the storms,” Etzel said. “Whatever people are willing to give, we’re happy to take. Everything we collect stays on Kaua‘i.”
The annual three-day Hats Off fundraising event is led by the Hawai‘i State Chapter of the American Red Cross.
