LIHU‘E — Elsie Wilcox Elementary School was the beneficiary of its fifth-grade class’s Bully Project Unit on Wednesday.
Coordinated by Laura Taylor of the Aloha Peace Project, the fifth-grade students presented a dozen wall-sized posters with varying anti-bullying messages to the school.
The students were the actual subjects of the posters which were directed by Kelly Kean, with McDonaldKean Photography contributing its services to make the posters.
Students involved in the photography were able to sign up to be subjects in the posters, which portray communicating feelings and decisions about peace making and anti-bullying.
Taylor said the fifth-graders had an opportunity to make a difference at their school.
Among the fifth-graders participating in the project were Melaina Arellanes, Kristine Marques, Kalyssa Tanihiro, Tyra Oshio, Angelina Ouye, Dallas Albao, Gavin Toyofuku, Felicia Ian, Jessica Herman, Pualani Lopez-Nakato and Blake Prabasco.
Jonel Elias, a counselor at Wilcox School, accepted the posters on behalf of principal Terry Proctor.
Elias said the students started studying anti-bullying topics in the third grade.
