PO‘IPU — Kristyn Vasconcelles pocketed a pair of “fast times” en route to being named All Around Cowgirl at the Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association Prince Kuhio rodeo last Sunday at CJM Country Stables.
Sandra Akita, besting Kristyn in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and Dally Team Roping, was named Reserve All Around Cowgirl, breaking her string of being named All Around Cowgirl the past two events.
Kristyn, finishing second in the Goat Tying event, pocketed her first “fast time,” securing her goat on a 23.616 average, below Alexis Vasconcelles who nailed the event with a 22.623 average. Kristyn earned a 10.88 go for her “fast time.”
Her second “fast time” came in the Breakaway, where she finished with a 15.98 fourth, but pocketing a 4.18 “fast time.”
Following Alexis and Kristyn in Goat Tying, Kim Medeiros (24.633), Hallie Cristobal (29.086) and Britni Ludington-Braun (30.88) rounded out the leaders.
Janine Wilson pocketed a “fast time” in the Steer Undecorating event, finishing second at 14.24 below Kim Medeiros who topped the event at 5.66.
Kristyn Vasconcelles finished third (14.58) followed by Rhonda Kaui (16.78) and Tierra Rapozo (17.03).
Kaui topped the Breakaway Roping event with an 8.66 followed by Rosanne Shimogawa (13.23), Cora Murayama (13.54), Kristyn (15.98) and Marti Snyder (21.11).
Akita, teaming with Ludington-Braun in the Dally Team, landed in the leader-board, finishing third on a 30.08 average on two go’s.
Top team in the Dally Team included Alexis Vasconcelles heading and Ludington-Braun heeling for a 24.98 average.
Taylor Ludington teamed with Ho‘olai Ludington, Britni’s mom, for a 28.3 average for second place followed by the Sandra Akita-BritniLudington-Braun duo in third.
Rosanne Shimogawa teamed with Ho‘olai Ludington (33.07) followed by Marti Snyder teaming with Kim Medeiros (36.89) to round out the leader board.
Taylor Ludington waited until the tail end of the 3D Barrel Racing field to post her top time of 18.081 aboard “Dusty” for top honors in the 1st D.
Britni Ludington-Braun (18.126), Sandra Akita (18.19), Cheree Rapozo (18.242) and Kristyn Vasconcelles (18.319) rounded out the 1st D class.
Nancy McMahon mimicked Taylor, waiting until the tail end of the event to post a 19.743 aboard “Dusty” (a different steed from Taylor’s) to top the 2nd D.
Rosanne Shimogawa, (19.92), Gayle Thompson (19.981), Ho‘olai Ludington-Braun (20.013 and Kim Medeiros, the KAGRA Secretary, (20.171) rounded out the 2nd D.
Brianne Matsuyama’s single run stopped at 21.406 to top the 3rd D Barrels. Dena Souza (22.1), Debbie Bail, the KAGRA president, (22.303), Kaui (23.057) and Karen Akita, Sandra’s mom, (23.15) rounded out the event.
Wendy Tannery topped the 1st D of Pole Bending on a 22.576 go, followed by Sandra Akita (22.912), Tierra Rapozo (23.464), Britni Ludington-Braun (23.475) and Kristyn Vasconcelles (23.986).
Christina Dela Fuente topped the 2nd D Poles on a 24.592, followed by Hallie Cristobal (24.814), Ho‘olai Ludington (24.95), Bongo Lee (25.165) and Marti Snyder (25.349)
Janine Wilson topped the 3rd D Poles on a 26.610 followed by Brianne Matsuyama (27.087), Shan Mundon (27.71), Debbie Bail (27.813) and Dena Souza (29.846).
The public is invited to the KAGRA fourth rodeo of a six-event season on April 22 at CJM Country Stables. The Grand Entry begins at 10 a.m.
There is no admission charge and a lunch wagon is available to whet appetites for local-style grinds .
