PO‘IPU — A 32-year-old Puhi woman remained in critical condition Sunday following a head-on traffic collision Saturday afternoon in Po‘ipu.
A county spokesperson said the two-car crash occurred at about 5 p.m. on Po‘ipu Road fronting Borthwick Mortuary.
The woman was driving a Ford sedan when she reportedly crossed the center line and hit an oncoming Ford convertible.
The sedan driver suffered severe head injuries, according to police, and was transported to Wilcox Hospital for medical treatment.
The convertible driver was reportedly a male tourist. The driver and his wife reported minor injuries and were treated and released by medics at the scene.
Police closed Po‘ipu Road in both directions for roughly three hours Saturday while crews worked to clear the roadway.
The road was reopened at about 8:20 p.m.
