HONOLULU – University of Hawai`i head women’s soccer coach Michele Nagamine announced the signing of Jennifer Cafferky to a national letter of intent. Cafferky, a native of Boras Sweden, enrolls at UH this fall with four years of eligibility and aims to be the first-ever European recruit to suit up for the Rainbow Wahine.
“I am absolutely thrilled that Jennifer is joining us.” Nagamine said. “She is a fast, skilled defender who has Swedish National Team experience and will make an immediate impact for our team. She took official visits to some major Division I soccer schools and chose us. I think that speaks volumes about where she feels our program is going and that’s something we’re extremely proud of as we continue to improve and build for the future.”
Cafferky competed as a member of the U-17 Swedish National Team, appearing in five games from 2008-2009. She was part of a team that won the Nordic Girls Tournament in 2009 as her defensive skills helped the team limit its opponents to just one goal during the entire tournament. Cafferky also served as a captain and center back of the Bergdalens IK club team that competes in the Swedish third division. She ultimately turned down offers to play in the nation’s premier division in order to play collegiate soccer at UH.
Cafferky is the 10th player to join this year’s recruiting class. Nine players, including one local product and eight players from talent-rich California, committed last month on the first day of the signing period.
