WAILUA — A one-vehicle accident Tuesday morning slowed commuting traffic to nearly a halt.
A male driver suffered facial cuts and undisclosed injuries when his full-size Toyota pick-up truck left the road in front of the Wailua Golf Course around 8:15 a.m.
Former Kaua‘i Police Chief Brian S. Fujiuchi was on the ninth hole of the golf course when he saw the accident. He said the truck left the road and snapped a utility pole in two before T-boning a tree.
Fujiuchi said he thought the driver perhaps escaped more serious injury by striking the utility pole first, which might have slowed the vehicle before it hit the tree.
Drivers were reporting that it took 30 minutes in backed up traffic to travel from Coco Palms to the accident site near the golf course.
